lubrifiant naturel vegan fabriqué en france My Lubie
SOMMAIRE

You may already have a natural intimate lubricant in your bathroom. Or maybe the idea has never even crossed your mind. Yet whether you’re looking for more comfort in your daily life, heightened sensations during sex, or a moment of solo pleasure, lubricant is one of those intimate essentials that quietly makes all the difference.

The problem? Between unclear ingredient lists, marketing claims, and common misconceptions, it’s hard to know what to believe. My Lubie is here to help you separate fact from fiction and choose a natural lubricant that’s truly gentle on your body.

What is a natural intimate lubricant?

An intimate lubricant is a gel, fluid, or oil designed to reduce friction during sexual intercourse, the use of a sex toy, or simply to moisturize the intimate area. It’s a comfort-enhancing step that many people incorporate into their routine, simply because it makes things more enjoyable.

A natural lubricant, on the other hand, goes a step further: it is formulated with naturally derived ingredients and is free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, petroleum-derived glycols, and suspected endocrine disruptors. Its formula is designed to respect the delicate balance of the intimate flora.

Natural vs. Organic: What's the Difference?

The two are often confused. An organic lubricant meets certified standards (Ecocert, Cosmos, etc.) that require a minimum percentage of ingredients derived from organic farming. A natural lubricant relies on ingredients of natural origin, without necessarily having a certification label.

What matters most? The INCI list—that is, the product’s actual ingredients. A lubricant can be certified organic yet still be a neutral base, lacking active ingredients designed to moisturize, protect, or enhance intimate comfort. Conversely, an unlabeled natural lubricant may have a more carefully crafted formula with targeted ingredients. What both have in common is a rigorous approach to composition, a far cry from conventional formulas loaded with additives. We’ll come back to this.

Why should you avoid conventional lubricants?

The genital area is one of the most absorbent parts of the human body. The vaginal and anal mucous membranes allow some of the substances they come into contact with to pass through. What you apply to this area deserves just as much attention as what you eat.

According to a survey by Que Choisir, certain compounds found in cosmetics can enter the bloodstream, with an increased risk for products applied to mucous membranes.

Ingredients to Watch Out For

Here are the substances most commonly found in mass-market lubricants, and why they raise concerns:

  • Parabens (methylparaben, propylparaben, etc.): preservatives suspected of being endocrine disruptors. The ANSM recommends limiting their use on mucous membranes.
  • Excess glycerin: In large amounts, it can contribute to yeast infections in women whose vulva is prone to imbalances in the vaginal flora.
  • Phenoxyethanol: a preservative whose use is restricted in infant cosmetics. Caution is advised when it comes to sensitive mucous membranes.
  • Synthetic fragrances: Often listed as "fragrance" or "parfum" on the label, they are a common source of irritation and allergic reactions.
  • Chlorhexidine: a powerful antiseptic that disrupts the balance of the vaginal flora by eliminating both good bacteria (lactobacilli) and bad bacteria.

The right thing to do: Turn the product over and read the ingredients list before applying it. At My Lubie, we clearly display the INCI list on every product page. Because we believe our ingredients come into direct contact with your most intimate areas, they must be of the highest quality.

Natural water-based, oil-based, or silicone-based lubricants: the key differences

Not all lubricants are created equal. Here are the three main categories to help you understand the differences.

Water-based: the all-purpose option

It's the most common and versatile option. It's lightweight, easy to rinse off, doesn't stain sheets, and is compatible with latex condoms as well as most silicone sex toys.

Strengths:

  • Compatible with condoms (latex and polyisoprene)
  • Compatible with silicone sex toys
  • Light, natural texture
  • Rinse with water

Note: It dries a little faster. Simply reapply it or add a few drops of water to restore its slipperiness.

A well-formulated, water-based natural lubricant, such as our natural fluid lubricant, provides long-lasting comfort without disrupting the balance of your intimate flora.

Oil-based: the sensory experience

Rich and nourishing, it is popular for massages and moments when you take the time to explore your sexuality. Vegetable oils (coconut, jojoba, sweet almond) are the most common base ingredients in natural formulas.

Strengths:

  • Long-lasting, no need to reapply
  • Nourishing effect on the skin
  • Ideal for massages

Important note: Oils are not compatible with latex condoms. Oil, like all oils, makes latex and polyisoprene porous and weakens them. This reduces their effectiveness in preventing pregnancy and protecting against STIs, even if they haven’t torn. If you use condoms, a water-based lubricant is still the safest choice.

Some intimate oils are also formulated with CBD to provide a relaxing and soothing effect. Please note, however, that these oils are not compatible with latex or polyisoprene condoms.

Silicone-based: long-lasting

Silky texture, hardly dries out at all, and is compatible with latex condoms. Silicone lubricant is often used for anal sex or underwater sex.

Limitation: It is not compatible with silicone sex toys (silicone breaks down silicone). Good to know: It is not available in a natural formula because silicone is a synthetic compound that is excluded from formulations intended to be “clean,” even if they are not labeled as organic.

How to Choose a Natural Lubricant Based on Your Situation

There is no single best natural intimate lubricant that works for everyone. The right choice depends on your body, your situation, and your preferences. Here are a few guidelines.

Mild vaginal dryness

Vaginal dryness affects people of all ages. Stress, fatigue, hormonal birth control, and the menstrual cycle—there are many possible causes. Vaginal dryness is a medical term. If you experience persistent symptoms, consult a healthcare professional to identify the cause, as it may be a sign of a hormonal imbalance or a side effect of treatment.

For mild, diagnosed vaginal dryness, a natural, water-based lubricant that is gentle on the vaginal flora is the gentlest choice. Choose a formula containing hyaluronic acid or aloe vera for long-lasting moisturizing effects.

To learn more about this topic, vaginal dryness requires appropriate care: talk to a healthcare professional.

Undiagnosed Intimate Discomfort

You don’t need a diagnosis of vaginal dryness to feel tight, tight-lipped, or uncomfortable during sex. This “dry” discomfort is common: it can occur at certain times of your cycle, after a long, stressful day, or simply because arousal takes time. It’s perfectly normal, and a little help is often all it takes.

Our natural lightweight lubricant or our natural rich lubricant can transform the moment—no prescription or hassle required. And for daily moisturizing care outside of intercourse, our soothing intimate balm is designed exactly for that.

Vaginismus or Pain in the Genital Area

Vaginismus is characterized by an involuntary contraction of the pelvic floor muscles, making penetration painful or even impossible. If you’re affected by this condition, lubricant can be a real help in your daily life. It’s a little help—not a magic potion—but a little help that makes a big difference.

Key criteria:

  • Fluid texture (not too thick)
  • Glycerin-free, fragrance-free
  • Formula that is gentle on intimate skin

Lubricant can be used as part of a treatment plan (dildators, pelvic physical therapy, sex therapy) to reduce discomfort. If you experience pain during intercourse, talk to a healthcare professional. And for more information, we’ve put together a guide on vaginismus.

Breastfeeding or Menopause

During breastfeeding and after menopause, a drop in estrogen levels leads to thinning of the mucous membranes and a decrease in natural lubrication. This is a common physiological phenomenon.

A natural, water-based lubricant— free of hormones and endocrine disruptors—helps restore comfort without interfering with hormonal balance. If dryness is severe, a formula enriched with hyaluronic acid will be more comfortable.

Use with a condom

Golden rule: If you use a latex or polyisoprene condom, use only water-based or silicone-based lubricant. Oils, even natural ones (including coconut oil), break down latex.

A small amount of lubricant on the condom and on your partner’s private parts not only reduces the risk of the condom breaking, as well as discomfort and irritation after sex, but also significantly enhances sensations and pleasure!

How to Read the INCI List on Your Lubricant

The INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) list is required on all cosmetics in Europe. How to decipher it in 30 seconds:

  • The ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration. The first 3 or 4 make up the bulk of the formula.
  • "Aqua" first = water-based. That's a good sign.
  • Latin names generally refer to plant extracts (Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice = aloe vera juice).
  • Long chemical names aren't necessarily bad: hyaluronic acid is written as sodium hyaluronate.
  • Ingredients to look out for and avoid: Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorhexidine, Fragrance/Parfum (unless labeled "naturally derived").

The Questions You Ask Us Most Often

Is a natural lubricant compatible with latex condoms?

Yes, as long as it is water-based or silicone-based. Natural water-based lubricants, such as the one from My Lubie, are fully compatible with latex and polyisoprene condoms. However, oil-based lubricants (including vegetable oils) weaken latex and should never be used with a condom.

What is the difference between organic lubricant and natural lubricant?

An organic intimate lubricant is certified by an independent organization (Ecocert, Cosmos, etc.) that guarantees a minimum percentage of ingredients derived from organic farming. A natural lubricant is formulated using ingredients of natural origin, without necessarily having a certification label. In both cases, check the full INCI list rather than relying solely on the packaging.

Can you use a natural lubricant every day?

Absolutely. A well-formulated, natural lubricant that’s free of irritants can be used daily with complete peace of mind. Whether for intercourse, solo pleasure, or to improve intimate comfort, there are no contraindications to regular use. If you experience persistent dryness, consult a healthcare professional to identify the cause.

How do you read the INCI list on an intimate lubricant?

The INCI list ranks ingredients in descending order of concentration. The first three ingredients make up the bulk of the formula. Look for healthy base ingredients (aqua, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid) and identify ingredients to avoid: parabens, phenoxyethanol, chlorhexidine, and synthetic fragrances. If in doubt, apps like INCI Beauty let you scan and analyze the ingredients in just a few seconds.

Taking care of your intimate well-being also means giving yourself the means to experience every moment with tenderness and serenity. Whether you’re exploring your sexuality or simply looking for a healthier product, natural intimate lubricant is a simple step that makes a big difference. Whether you’re alone, with a partner, or in a group: your intimate comfort matters to us. And at My Lubie, we’ll always be here to support you—without taboos and without pressure.
